Being a blogger or a freelance writer or even a social media consultant, you have to know few basic things about social media. There are rules for almost everything in this world. There is a limit for everything in life and social media is not exception. Social media sites can be very good and get your big results, if you use it in the right way. Else, you will see your blog/site banned from it.

When I say social media, digg lovers will think of digg, stumbleupon fans will think about stumbleupon and so on. But whichever is your favorite site, you have to follow certain rules to get the complete value from it.

1. Don’t Promote Your Content Alone

Social media sites are to put the best content in front of people who are interested in the respective niche. You should not promote every single blog post you write in your blog yourself. When someone else submits, it is fine. There is a difference between you praising yourself to others and your friend praising you in front of others. That’s the case here. You can submit one or two at times but not always. Have a ratio. For every 15 submits, you can submit your content. This is the way I use.

2. Give and Receive

Social media is all about giving and receiving. You cannot receive all the time and stay successful without giving anything to the users. If you have a friend from whom you get a ‘thumbs up’ at stumbleupon, you have to help him when he is asking for it. Of course, if the site he or she asks vote for is spammy, you cannot help them with social media. Get new friends and offer help to them. You can also get help from them when you are in need. You cannot succeed in social media without the help from friends.

3. Be Active

The winning secret in social media is being active and participating regularly. I do have to credit my friends for telling me this when I started with social media sites. You got to be active and regularly contributing to the community to succeed. You can get thousands of fans in social media sites only if you are already established and known to a lot of people. Being active isn’t tough. You should spend certain amount of time every day with social media. I try to use social media sites for at least one hour a day. Though I miss it at times, I always try my level best to stick on to it.

These are basic rules and once you follow these and act wisely, you will start to know more about the sites as days go by. You might be the next super user at digg or a power user at mixx. Also don’t forget to read the individual site’s policy or your site might get banned without you knowing it. After all social media is for everyone and you can easily succeed in it with little efforts. Concentrate on one at a time when you are learning and user the ones you have mastered for a little lesser time.

Good luck with social media sites. Hoping to see your post hit the front page of social sites with ease.

Online marketing is the Internet business promotion of the world. After computerization, every business has gone online with the existing clients and to recruit new clients. A small improvement in the web marketing can make a huge difference in the sales and profits.

These businesses are done in two ways; one, the e-mail promotion internet marketing and the other, business promotion internet affiliate marketing.

Online marketing is irksome and time-consuming because they depend on the bother of publishing and managing any e-mail and newsletter campaign. The availability of software in the markets make the newsletter and e-mail campaign management services the finest, easiest, and affordable method of handling online.

Clients with the unfailing method of publication and delivery are provided in this management. Also, the publications will be cost effective. In these, database management of the subscribers will be easy to care and manage. Online and offline capabilities are also provided in these managements. There is no charming pattern for online marketing success. Many online marketing companies will be selling resolves that do not work. Approaching something of little value or significance websites will lead to disastrous end of the online business.

Only careful planning, well timed carrying into action, lasting supervising, and an ongoing economic crisis improvement of the results need to be looked after. Profit and growth is the main target in these businesses. The goal of any logical online marketing program will be that an increase in the number of quality adds and paying customers are diverted to the clients’ web site.

Website that uses online marketing needs to make up just like any other advertisement or marketing investment. The businesses involved must not miss huge opportunities. The general practices of online marketing people are that they actually pay some people on these businesses to do all the work for them and then add a margin on the top of theirs.

Are you a blogger who feels boredom on writing? Beware! It will kill your passion on writing someday. Find out the problem behind it. Perhaps, the problem is about finding idea. Or, if you are not a blog star, so your blog post has a small amount of comments.

If your problem is the 2nd one, you don’t ever need to be a blog star to get a large amount of comments. Here some tips how to get more comments on your blog post.

Write a simple and informative blog post. The power of your blog is in the content itself. People will love to read your blog post if it offered them a good information, useful and understandably. So, write a post with a simple topic, so your visitors will able to understand your idea easily and then interested in sharing their ideas, too.

Ask a question to the end of your post. This is a simple trick to make your post more interactive and impressive. Ask a simple question. It will make your visitors interested in sharing their ideas or opinions.

Be a commenter of comments. Other way to interact with your visitors is by replying or responding their comments. It would be nice if you can address some of them directly.

Be controversial. Being a controversial blogger is not easy, indeed. It will need a big responsibility and last but not least, skill. However this is the fastest way to get comments from readers of your blog post.

Blogwalking and leave comments. Blogwalking is one of the easy way to promote your blog. Visit others blogs, read their blog posts, and add comments or your opinion to that posts. Simply write your name and URL of your blog. The owner and visitors of that blog will see your comments. It will be a good chance to get more visitors as well as commenters, for your blog.

Create your community. You can start making a small community of bloggers or commenters. This is only a virtual community. The members are the bloggers who periodically write comments to other member’s blog.

Blogger’s block is something which almost every blogger experiences in his blogging career. It is something every blogger hates because if they cannot write posts for their blog, they are going to miss so many new visitors, lose old subscribers and also get a big drip in the income.

This has become a big problem for a blogger that many bloggers have written posts on how to come out of the bloggers block. I have read a lot of posts and have also tried them to overcome bloggers block. In most cases they work but not always. I always feel that:

“Prevention is better than cure”

Why should you fall in bloggers block and then go for a cure. Most people don’t know why they fall in the bloggers block. If you are doing one of the below, you are sure to have bloggers block:

1. Develop Interest In Other Things

If you are developing interest in some other thing, you are going lose interest in what you are doing already. Though few people still manage to continue blogging even though they have developed interest, many cannot do it. They either have to stop blogging for few days and continue with their new interest or dump the new interest and continue blogging. Developing interest in new things is not bad. If you can keep it in control and continue blogging, it will pay off well.

2. Fix Unachievable Goals

Planning and working accordingly is a good habit. People, who plan their work, also set goals. Setting goals will help you achieve almost anything in a less time. But fixing unachievable goals will give bad results.

Say, you can set a goal like this:
I want to earn $1000 per month from blogging by the end of third month.
This is achievable.

But something like the below is not achievable.
I want to earn a five figure income by blogging from first month.

Though few people earn five figure incomes per month, they have worked tremendously hard to achieve this. It didn’t happen for them in single month. There are months of hard work behind it.

So fix goals that are achievable. If you are fixing unachievable goals, you will be frustrated and this might prevent you from blogging. It will create hate towards your blog. Always fix goals that are achievable.

3. Hate Your Blog

Hating your blog is the main reason why you fall into bloggers block. Don’t develop hate towards your blog. This hate towards your blog comes when you are comparing your blog with other people’s blog, or when you are not satisfied with your blog’s performance.

Instead of comparing your blog with others’, compare it with your blog itself. Compare your yesterday’s statistics with today’s. Compare your earnings of last month’s with this month’s. This is the right way of comparing. Always be satisfied with what you get. Don’t have too many expectations from your blog. If your blog is not performing well this month, try working hard to make it perform well in the next month. Don’t feel upset.

If you are falling into the bloggers block, the person to be blamed is you. The reason also lies within you. If you feel encouraged, you will never get trapped in the bloggers block. One of your reasons for blogging can be earning from it. But it should not be the only reason. Blogging is more than that. You can develop trust, brand and friendship. If you are not getting what you expected from your blog, feeling annoyed and getting yourself trapped in the bloggers block won’t help you. Be confident that you can achieve.

Have you ever fallen in the bloggers block? What was the reason behind it? Please share it in the comments.

If you have more than one blog, each with different readers, you probably want to have each blog’s readers read the other blogs. There’s a possibility that these readers who love your first blog would also love to read your other blogs. You can introduce them by doing cross promotion with each blog.

Now how can we do that? There’s several ways, and all of them are practically easy.

Link in post: If you have 2 blogs that cover different topics, sometimes you could post a certain topic that could be related with each blog. For example: your first blog is about personal life, and the second blog is about gadget review. You could post your daily activity in the first blog, while mentioning the gadget you use in that activity. Give the gadget’s info link to your second blog. Then in the second blog, you can write review of that gadget, while mentioning examples of how this gadget can be used. The examples are linked to your first blog.

Blogroll: Blogroll is a list of blog links that usually blogger put on the sidebar. This blogroll practically explains to readers what do this blogger read ever day. You can put your other blogs on the top parts of your blogroll, making sure that readers see it first. Provide a title tag to these blog links, so readers would understand what this blog is about before they click it.

RSS Widget: If you are using the recent version of WordPress, there’s a widget called RSS widget. With this, you could display recent’s posts of your other blogs. In the first blog, you can display recent posts of your second blog. If you’re using other blog platforms, you can also use a ready made RSS widget provided by Widgetbox. Create a new widget and choose blog/feed as your widget. With Widgetbox, your recent’s blog post can be displayed almost anywhere, not limited to your blog. You can display this widget in your socio graph profile, such as: MySpace, Facebook, or Friendster.

Ryan Caldwell of Performancing shared his experience in creating successfull list-oriented linkbaits.

Ah, yes. Please keep in mind that a linkbait is not only in form of a list, but also in another writing style.

Linkbaiting (link baiting, linkbait, link bait etc) is a term that has increasingly being used around the blogosphere. Linkbait is a strategy when writing a post which was intended to withdraw other readers as well ad bloggers attention and then link it into their own blogs.

In term of posting’s topic or entry, Randfish of SEOMoz pointed out that there are two kinds of linkbait: (1) Linkbait - “Link-Worthy, Linkerati-Targeted Content“; and (2) “Attracting Link Attention with Controversy”

Ryan said that the key to writing bait is not objectivity, but being comfortable with subjectivity and opinion.

Here are he usually does when he writes a listbait:

come up with headline (defines the concept)

brainstorm list until I’m exhausted

remind myself that this is not a mid-term exam

write 1 sentence per item in the list (the “justification” for each item)

remove any items I can’t write 1 sentence for

pray that the sentence writing helped clarify my line of thought and jogs my mind for a few more items

remove the chaff

flesh out content with pics, videos, links

identify a number

refine the headline to fit the final content

# 3 is really an interesting point!

Thanks for sharing, Ryan! I will try to write my own soon!

When you have been blogging for several times, finally you would reach the limit of what topics you would like to share with your readers.

I personally experienced this problem. I was freshed out of ideas. I can’t think of anything new that I want to share with my audiences.

One of my own blog’s topics is about brand campaign website and other examples of best practise websites as a business. Usually I commented and criticized about those websites.

Then I got this idea, why not let the website’s owner share his/her ideas of the website he/she built? So, I started to contact some of them (fortunately, a few of them I know quite well), offering them interviews as a post in my blog. They respond happily. This probably would also be a good chance for them to promote their business through different audiences.

I made some questions and send them through email. After receiving the answer, I edited few words and started posting it as a blog post.

So then, you get your post with others writing them out for you. My blog readers were also excited, since they found different perceptions in my blog.

You can also do this by interviewing others that related to your blog topics. Usually, readers would love to read the experience of others in the particular fields.

The readers need to have some inspirations to do the same thing. That’s what they love when they’re reading interviews.

My last article talked about some reasons why company should start blogging. This time, I want to share my opinion about another topic — it’s still related to my previous one. This time, I will write something a little bit technical, and — of course — it’s related to blogging activities.

If someone (or even a company) wants to start blogging (after having the concept), the very first questions to answer is: “What’s the best platform?”. The simple answer should be: “Use a blog engine as its platform. Period.” But, sometime, some companies go to an opposite direction. They created their own platform, getting someone make a custom content management, etc. For what reason? Because “it’s just cool to have our own application”? Think again! Personally, if it’s related to — again! — blog, it’s useless to build blogging application from zero, especially today. Why?

There are already many applications available like WordPress, Movable Type, Blogger.com, Typepad, Expression Engine, Textpattern, VOX, Mephisto, or even from social networking service like Friendster, etc.

We can choose from two types of applications: self-hosted and hosted service. Self-hosted means that we download and install the application to our own machine. Hosted service means we use the service from the blogging provider. I’ll write more about the comparisons later.

And, the best thing is that those applications are built for blogging. They have the technologies.

Again, blogging is about content publishing. And, there are many options the platforms available. When we deal with blog, sometime it’s not only about “writing contents, and publish them”. There are still more, e.g. RSS, archiving, conversation, search engines, spam filter mechanism, etc. And the technologies grows very vast. If a custom platform are created, there is a big question to answer: “Can it survive and catch up the blogging technologies?”.

To be more specific, for a company, the biggest challenge is not about creating a blogging application. But, it’s about producing contents and building readership. While people start talking about many great topics, companies do not start it yet… still thinking about building a blogging application? Ah, come on! Where are you?

Just stumbled upon Etienne’s posting about free website submission, I think this service is interesting and exciting to deal with. You can submit your site or blog URL to 150 directories for free! By using this service, you just need 15-minutes to do it, depending upon your connection and typing speed!

Just stumbled upon Etienne’s posting about free website submission, I think this service is interesting and exciting to deal with.
How come? ResellerGo wrote in its website:

The ResellerGo Directory Submission Software was developed by a group of software developers whose objective was to create a tool that would assist webmasters market their websites. After several months, we realized that the absolute necessity for all websites is directory submission - a process which can be both expensive and time-consuming.

…The ResellerGo tool is free of charge by joining and selecting the “Free Plan.” This plan has a limit of 150 submission per domain you add to your account - offering webmasters to promote an unlimited number of websites, with 150 submissions per domain.

Ah, yes. You can upgrade the plan into unlimited plan which was enabling you to submit your website to over 2,000 directories.

I myself have tried using the Free Plan of this service and then upgraded into the Silver Plan (Economic) by paying US$4 for the one-time per domain. I paid it by using the easy PayPal.

I think the submission tool is very useful and handy to do.

By submitting our site’s URL to a bunch of directories, it would effect our site’s ranking in a number of search engines. Would be nice if the directories we already submitted to, also have good PR, Alexa rank, and so on.
